The 1307 Jail

1307 Baker Jail, Houston, TX.
The 1307 Jail is located at 1307 Baker Street just north of downtown Houston, Texas and east of the 701 Jail. Originally built as a state jail for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and is currently leased by the Sheriff's Office.

Some Quick Facts:

  • The 1307 Jail contains 1,070 inmate beds located in two wings.

  • The 1307 Jail is designed as a “Semi-Direct Observation” facility where staff members continuously monitor the inmates twenty-four hours a day, seven days per week in the dorm area. This type of construction provides for a safer environment for both inmates and staff and is less labor intensive, saving taxpayers in operating costs.

  • The 1307 Jail is also in charge of the Farm Shop. The Sheriff is required to catch and impound stray cattle, horses, pigs, and sheep until either the owner can claim them or, if after a certain time period has expired, sell them at auction.

  • The 1307 Jail is managed by:
    One Lieutenant
    Nine Sergeants
  • The 1307 Jail is staffed with approximately 112 sheriff's deputies and detention officers.
