It is the mission of the Criminal Warrants Division to successfully clear all open Felony and Class A and B Misdemeanor warrants issued in Harris County. It is also within our mission to investigate runaway juvenile cases and bring them to a successful conclusion.
It is the goal of this Division to locate and safely apprehend all defendants who have open Felony and Class A and B Misdemeanor warrants issued in Harris County. Alternatively, we will cause these defendants to surrender and/or make bond in a timely manner. We have the additional goal of locating and returning all runaway juveniles to their parents or legal guardians in an expedient manner.
It is our vision to achieve all of our goals in a manner which is reflective of the high standards of the Harris County Sheriff's Office. We will make every effort to meet these goals with the greatest level of safety, security and professionalism, as is expected by the community which we serve.
The Criminal Warrants Division focuses on the administration, management and execution of criminal arrest warrants. It serves as a central depository for all arrest documents issued by Harris County Criminal District and County Courts. The Criminal Warrants Division is also responsible for the extradition of fugitives. The investigators demonstrate the meaning of "the long arm of the law" having traveled as far away as Australia, Canada, Japan and Romania, as well as across the United States in the pursuit of fugitives.
Additional responsibilities include investigating juvenile runaways and missing persons in the unincorporated areas of Harris County. The TCIC/NCIC Entry Section is responsible for entering accurate data into the system in search of wanted persons. The Criminal Warrants Division also participates in a task force entitled the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. It is a multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional approach of enhanced violent crime enforcement for the Gulf Coast Region. It is designed to investigate, locate and apprehend potentially violent suspects. By targeting for arrest those individuals who represent the most danger to the community, we can better safeguard the citizenry.
In 2007, the warrants on file totaled 30,038. Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Local Warrants arrested 6,044 wanted subjects in 2007 and cleared 13,481. Fugitive Warrants completed the transfer and extradition of 1,562 wanted subjects. The Runaway Investigative/Missing Person Detail received 2,543 cases and cleared 2,424 of these cases.
