Homeland Security Bureau

The Homeland Security Bureau was established to provide a cadre of dedicated personnel with training and expertise in addressing potential terrorism, as well as, natural or man-made catastrophic events in the Harris County area. Working in conjunction with federal and local jurisdictions in identifying vulnerabilities and security deficiencies involving key assets and critical infrastructure, the bureau is tasked with preparing and instituting strategic action plans with a focus on deterrence, interdiction, and potential target-hardening. Additionally, the Bureau is tasked with developing and implementing project plans for providing at risk waterside and landside security along the Houston Ship Channel.

Should a catastrophic event occur requiring a law enforcement response, the Sheriff of Harris County is charged with directing and coordinating all County law enforcement resources.  The Homeland Security Bureau would assume incident command and implement critical incident plans using all available assets to the conclusion of the event.
