Patrol Support Services Bureau
Mission Statement
The Patrol Support Services Bureau is committed to serving the citizens of Harris County. This commitment to service and excellence is maintained through dedication, professionalism and adherence to duty in supporting all aspects of the patrol mission, resulting in a safe and secure environment for the public through strategic policing, integrity, respect and strong community partnerships. In attaining this goal the bureau emphasizes and focuses on crime prevention and suppression, infrastructure protection, community education and awareness, emergency preparedness and traffic safety.
The bureau consists of the Traffic Enforcement Section, the Community Services Section, Parks Section, Crime Control Section, and the Administrative Support Section.
History
In April of 2005, the new Patrol Support Services Bureau was created. Up until this time, all patrol operations were under one bureau. This bureau was responsible for the administration of the traditional patrol function of answering calls for service from the citizens of Harris County and also responsible for all of the support functions needed to optimize the efficient and professional delivery of these patrol services to our citizens. These support functions included community services, traffic enforcement, parks patrol and other administrative support functions such as the subdivision contract management program and the Citizens Police Academy.
The rapid growth of unincorporated Harris County along with the corresponding need for increasing law enforcement services to its citizens resulted in the expansion of duties and personnel in the existing Patrol Bureau. As the bureau continued to grow it became evident that in order to continue the outstanding and professional law enforcement services the citizens of Harris County had come to expect, a division of the existing Patrol Bureau into two bureaus was necessary. This division has allowed each bureau commander to focus on their respective responsibility (patrol/answering calls for service and patrol support operations) resulting in a more efficient and responsive bureau that provides optimal personnel performance and service to the community.
This transition has gone smoothly and both bureau commanders and their subordinates have worked together to make our community safe and secure while providing outstanding law enforcement to our citizens on a daily basis.
Based out of the headquarters facility at 1200 Baker Street, the bureaus operation is divided into five divisions.
