Mission Statement
The mission of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Unit is to provide effective and efficient law enforcement services to our community. This mission is fulfilled by evaluating and rendering safe suspected improvised explosive devices, incendiary devices, explosives, explosive chemicals, ammunition and weapons of mass destruction.
Overview
 The Bomb Unit consists of two (2) FBI certified bomb technicians who are available to respond to requests for service throughout the thirteen (13) county region of the Houston/Galveston Area Council. The bomb technicians train with other bomb technicians on a regular basis. The Bomb Unit also provides Improvised Explosive Device Recognition training to peace officers and conducts Public Educational presentations and demonstrations.
 The Bomb Unit maintains and trains with a multitude of tools and equipment, all of which allow the technicians to function effectively and safely. Major equipment includes a state-of -the -art Bomb Response Vehicle and a Bomb Response Robot. The bomb Technicians are also equipped with conventional bomb disposal equipment to include bomb suits, x-ray equipment, pan disruptors, and hazardous materials response gear.
